LBPW FAQ - 2008

We would like to form a cheer squad but our school team does not go though LBPW.  Can we cheer at those games through the LBPW Cheer program?
LBPW will provide a Cheer squad in any LBPW area or school provided there are enough participants to field a squad.  Those squads will be able to cheer and compete for their schools.

How are Teams Created?
The Registration & Team Committee has gone to great lengths this year to make the team formation process as straight forward as possible.  For our larger school areas, the teams will be formed by the school that the player attends.  The goal is not to "build" teams, but to have players that attend the same school playing together.  "Same classroom, same jersey." The exception to this will exist only if there aren't enough players in a particular school(s) to form a team in any specific division. In the event that we have an extraordinarily large group from a specific school(s) in a division, the Team committee will work with our Athletic Commissioner to insure the most equitable split possible.  This is a large part of the reason that the LBPW has to begin the team formation process early and have it completed by mid June.  In order to help this process, LBPW would encourages everyone to register as early as possible to guarantee your spot on the team in your area.  Teams will fill up, and late registrations (beyond May 31st) will incur a $50 late fee and after June 15th will only be taken on an as needed basis to fill teams

Why are we playing on Sunday?

Oregon and Oregon Sate football games are occasionally on Saturdays. We will try not to conflict withthese games. If there are no Beaver or Duck home games we will scheduled games on a Saturday. Due to referee & field shortages, we may need to hold some games on other days... Juniors and Seniors may play some games on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. There possibly could be some Friday or Saturday Night games for the older divisions. Initially LBPW played games on Sundays because of sponsorship by the NFL, stipulations in this endorsement require the use of NFL team names and most games played on Sundays, like the NFL. Currently, field scheduling and referee availability make Sunday a necessary choice. This year Tiny Mites will play on Wednesday evenings and the Junior and Senior leagues may play on days other than Sunday. Some games will be played on Saturday as well in the 2008 season. No regular season games will be played earlier than 12 p.m. on Sundays.

Will my child get to play with his friend?

Most likely, but there are no guarantees.  Pop Warner Little Scholars follows a strict age–weight matrix.  Not all kids are the same size.  Athletes are sorted based on grade school, middle school area, and then by high school area.

Will we have to travel?

This depends upon the amount of kids in the program.  It is possible your child may have a 2 games in the Harrisburg against teams from the Willamette Valley Pop Warner league.  Play-offs may require some travel.

Who will LBPW teams play?

LBPW will have teams from the Albany, Lebanon, Salem & Corvallis Area; Some games will be against teams from Willamette Valley Pop Warner in Eugene. Play-offs will include Rouge Valley Pop Warner from Grants Pass south to Ashland. Also Klamath Falls Area Schools.

Vacations in August? Can my child still play?

Season begins August 18th. Your child would miss the required conditioning practices prior to the season start. All conditioning and requirements must be met before the player can participate in games and contact drills. It would set the player behind should they miss any time. However talk with your team coach and he should be able to better adjust and help you work out a solution that does not place the player too far behind the rest of the team.

Do we have to be at every practice?

Absences are the sole discretion of the individual coach. Since we have a maximum amount of practice time per week, (10 hours per week before Labor day and 6 hrs per after labor day) most teams will only practice 3 days a week. Talk to your coach about pre-arranged absences.
Ten hours of conditioning (practice without pads) are required before full gear is worn. (Helmets required at every practice) and Ten hours of practice in full pads before scrimmages. No exceptions.
Where do we play?

When are practices?

Coaches set practice time and schedule. Many parents and coaches work during the week days, so practices are typically held in the late afternoons to early evenings.

Where do we play?

LBPW is working to secure the best possible playing locations in Linn and Benton counties. Some regular season games will be played in Harrisburg against WVPW teams.  Playoff games in the past have been held at Reser Stadium at OSU, and State Championship games are held at Autzen Stadium at the University of Oregon.  Some play off games in 2007 will be in Southern Oregon against Rogue Valley Pop Warner teams.

Can I coach?

Absolutely, we have a selection process. Check out the coaches page and complete the application.  return application to the Athletic Director for the League.

What about other volunteer jobs?

LBPW is dependant upon members of the league helping out.  Each team has specific volunteer needs as does the league in general.  Joining a work committee can fulfill your volunteer requirement.

What counts as a play for the MPR? (Minimum Play Requirement)

Counts as a play:
  - All offensive plays
  - All defensive plays
  - Punt and Punt Return plays
  - Field Goal plays

 Not a play:
  - Kickoff
  - Kickoff Return
  - Standing Kicks / Free Kicks
  - Point After Attempts
  - QB Intentionally spiking the ball to kill the clock
  - Any offensive or defensive play where a penalty has been called and the down is replayed

What happens when the MPR is not met?

When a player does not have all their minimum plays by the end of the third quarter, they are to start the fourth quarter and play until they have reached their minimum plays. This requirement is the responsibility of the "Head Coach". If at the end of the game, a player does not have their minimum plays recorded, the following will happen at a minimum (subject to Sportsmanship Committee Review):
  1) The player will have double the amount of minimum plays for the next game (i.e. normally 14, the next game would be 28).
  2) The "Head Coach" is placed on probation for the rest of the season
    a) If the "Head Coach" violates this a second time it will result in a one game suspension
    b) If the "Head Coach" violates this a third time it will result in a one year (calendar year) suspension

Why No standing for Tiny Mite and Mitey Mite?
In order to have standings you need to have a declared winner and scores. Which these two levels of the league do not have, so no standings will be published for the Mitey-Mite and Tiny-Mite divisions.
